At Back to Life Chiropractic located in Chesterton Indiana, we strive at giving the most scientifically supported and patient specific treatments. Chiropractic is a non-invasive form of health care that focuses on hands on treatment to alleviate a specific pain generator/s.

Doctors of Chiropractic use a detailed history, orthopedic/neurological testing, rang of motion, and palpation of joints/muscles to determine an appropriate treatment. Many times chiropractic manipulation is utilized. This can range from very low force techniques in which no cracking or popping is warranted; utilizing activator, drop table, or isolated traction (flexion and distraction) techniques. Depending on the specific case a manual adjustment will be used to help achieve proper biomechanical function of the joint in which a gas is often released (cavitation). This is a controlled adjustment at a specific segment of restriction and most times offers relief. If any concerns arise please let the doctor know and alternative treatment options will be discussed.

Often times adjunct therapies will be used to help aid in pain reduction, increase range of motion and most importantly increase function. We utilize active care (stretching, strengthening) and passive therapies (manual therapy/massage, electrical muscle stimulation, ultrasound, kinesio tape) in which chiropractors have extensive knowledge and training. Our only goal is to get you back to doing the things you want and need to do even if that means going to a different professional to help address any non-responsive issues. We send out for all pertinent information to our referring doctor and get any imaging medically warranted to get to the root of the condition. Our mindset is least to most invasive to get to a solution.

Massage as Therapy

Massage therapy targets issues that are muscular in nature. Muscle spasms and overworked areas of tension can benefit from massage as well as pulled or strained muscles. Massage therapy isn’t just a pampering, luxury treatment. It has legitimate medical properties effective in aiding in pain management and recovery.

Massages also affect the nervous system through the manipulation of soft tissue. The top layers of muscles benefit directly from applied massage because it encourages the free flow of fluids and energy. Soft tissue treatment helps correct misalignment of the spine. There are many massage techniques used in healing including deep-tissue, cranial sacral therapy, and trigger point therapy.

Massage therapy can aid in chiropractic care, acting like a “warm-up” for the body prior to the adjustment. Adjustments last longer when muscle tension is released – tight muscles pull joints out of alignment, and massage therapy would address that issue directly. In turn, chiropractic care addresses mis-alignments which gives immediate relief to the soft tissue massage therapy specifically prioritizes. Soft tissue heals quicker once the joints have been restored to proper position. Massage therapy boasts benefits ranging from:

Last correction I wanted to change in the featured services area was Chiropractic/ Massage Therapy/ Physical Rehabilitation….the pictures were changed but not in the featured service section in which I was referring to. The picture of the chiropractor I would appreciate a different picture for the chiropractor. This borderline looks like a headlock and not a technique I utilize. I do want this changed. (Section with three boxes in the featured services changed to these three titles)

Meet the Doctor,

Doctor James Gano grew up in Chesterton Indiana and is thrilled to get to give back to the community and practice in his hometown in which he graduated from Chesterton High School in 2002. He went on to receive his Bachelors degree in Exercise Physiology from Mesa State University located in Grand Junction, Colorado in which he actively enjoyed all the outdoor activities that beautiful Colorado has to offer. He still is an avid outdoor enthusiast and loves playing in nature’s playground wherever he is located. Dr. Gano then went on to Palmer College of Chiropractic in Port Orange Florida in which he received his Doctorate of Chiropractic in 2010. During his preceptorship under Dr. Donald Murphy who is the clinic director of Rhode Island Spine Center and clinical faculty member at Alpert Medical School of Brown University. During his time there he was able to obtain a plethora of research articles in which today helps to determine his clinical decision making. During this time he was able to participate in spine conferences in which multiple specialties all come together to discuss case types and the newest research available. Dr. Gano observed multiple surgeries, and orthopedic rounds and realized the importance of co-management for the patients’ best interest.
Dr. Gano has been in practice for 6 years and has had the opportunity to practice in multiple locations in Indiana. He has served the greater area’s of Munster, Cedar Lake, Plymouth, Mishawaka, and also Chattanooga, Tennessee. He utilizes a variety of techniques because no two people respond the same and all conditions are assessed individually to determine the proper treatment for the patients’ source of pain. He is uses a mixture of manual adjustments, flexion and distraction, drop table, activator Webster technique and flexion and distraction. The first and most important step is getting the patient out of the current condition. Then it is making simple changes in ergonomics, stabilization exercises, and daily activities so the patient is able to maintain the improvements and get back to doing the things you need and want to do.

The doctor will first take a detailed history followed by a thorough neurologic, and orthopedic exam to determine the appropriate treatment. If x-rays or imaging are needed to help determine the patient pain source this can be done on site or referred out if needed. The patient will then get a detailed explanation of what is causing the pain and options for the diagnosis. The patient will then undergo treatment if the case is applicable. Sometimes modalities such as stretches, electrical muscle stimulation, intersegmental traction, manual/massage therapy, and ultrasound are utilized prior to the chiropractic adjustment if deemed medically necessary and appropriate for the condition. The “popping” is called a cavitation and is often heard during manual manipulations. This is simply a release of gas but isn’t necessary for positive results and any concerns please relay to the chiropractor. Many times decompression or flexion and distraction is utilized for certain conditions in correlation of other therapies. Light force adjusting techniques include drop table, flexion and distraction, Webster technique, and activator. The most important thing is RESULTS plain and simple. All techniques are explained prior to treatment and time is always left for questions or concerns.

He is upset with the design of the website. Requested several changes that involve changing the design. Informed him that we cannot change the design of the website but advised him to speak with his account manager.

James called requested GoDaddy credentials. I did not provide the credentials. His IT guy requested it to set up a VPN. James couldn’t go into further detail. He may call back regarding this.

Dr returned my call. Stated he is ready to get started but will want to have the ownership included at an additional $1,000. Stated that he doesn’t know how to host it but will figure it out. Told dr that i will take care of the 1st month for him and that he is on a month to month and whenever he’s ready, he can take it but will most likely see the value of our service and simply allow us to manage it. Dr. Gano called me per our scheduled phone conference. Extremely nice. Office opening around May 1st in a very small town and should be signing the lease this Thursday. Dr is looking for a basic website, doesn’t care too much about design. Went over Silver and Gold… dr liked the Silver cause of the pricing and also the launch time-frame of 2 weeks. Knows a bit about SEO but gave him an overview of it which was inline with what he knows. Agrees his city is non-competitive and with a good quality site built vs a template company, he should in a few months but still no guarantees. Discussed Social Media, dr not a fax but told dr it is important and showed him the benefits and how to utilize it, dr then saw the value. Dr stated that he heard alot of G+ which I confirmed how they are heavily promoting this and how it works. Dr asked if that is included which I had quoted $250. It was a bit high and checked if that can be included cause its “just setup”. I told him I can to help earn his business. Dr was super nice and stated that he most likely will go with us after he signs the contract on Thurs. he also want to sit on it and did do research and knows the value of our service compared to others. Dr stated he will get back to be by end of the week if not early next week cause he wants to launch site sooner than later. HOT HOT lead. sent proposal. will call on Friday
