Female Bioidentical Hormones vs. Synthetic Hormones. What does this mean and what’s the difference?
Females’ ages 40 to 45 and up typically start to experience pre-menopause. These pre-menopause symptoms can be mild to crippling. Females are often told by their primary care or gynecological doctors these are symptoms that are the normal signs of aging. But wait! We live in the 20th century and why do we have to accept weight gain, low energy, low sex drive and problems sleeping as part of our normal aging process? We don’t!
Bio-identical hormones are easily identified by your body and utilized as a friendly hormone. Whereas, synthetic hormones are viewed as foreign invaders, and often cause complications.

Many people revert to taking such things as supplements bought at a health food store (yams, soy, etc), but these only contain a fraction of what is needed to provide true benefit. Think of it this way, if you were sick and needed a course of antibiotics, would you take something from the health food store vs. taking a true antibiotic? No! Prescription vs. over-the-counter is vastly different.
Did you know there are often 5 hormones that decline starting in our 40’s?
Estrogen = low sex drive, hot flashes
Progesterone = low sex drive, hot flashes
Testosterone = women require 10% of what men have. Low sex drive, inability to maintain weight, even w/exercise, muscle weakness, etc.
Cortisol (responsible for weight gain in the central area, sleep disturbances, etc)
Thyroid (energy, mood, hair loss, etc)
Prescribing just estrogen to females is extremely archaic. It’s like having a 1950 cancer treatment today. Why would you even consider that? You wouldn’t!

But my doctor said estrogen is dangerous!
Understanding bio-identical hormones is not something inherit with physicians, it’s not taught as part of their regular medical school curriculum. It’s a specialty all by itself. But why? Because doctors cannot realistically know everything about health and wellness, just like you wouldn’t go to your family doctor for brain surgery, you need to seek out a physician with a deep understanding of bio-identical hormones, which is often something a doctor seeks independently of their colleagues.
Synthetic hormones is what is often in debate and has had a few adverse studies associated, such as taking synthetic estrogen and progesterone together. The body views both as invaders and attacks. Synthetic hormones are animal based. Bio-identical hormones are derived from plants. Think of it this way, eating a McDonald Big Mac and fries (that has zero nutritional value) or an organic, non-GMO lunch that is primarily plant based with wild fish. The difference is vast. One is terrible for you, whereas the other is very good for you. This is the best we can do with explaining synthetic hormones vs. bio-identical hormones.
Female bio-identical hormone therapy at a high level, under a physician’s care who has the proper understanding of such will literally result in an anti-aging effect!
Bio-identical hormones (unlike synthetic) are custom-compounded into individualized doses. This unique feature is the reason many forms of bioidentical hormones replacement therapy are not patented and regulated by the FDA. On the other hand, some bioidentical hormone formulations have been found to work ideally at an established dose and these have been patented by manufacturers and approved by the FDA.
Hormones and the role they play within our body
Hormones are chemical messengers that attach to certain receptors within the entire body. Hormones are responsible for keeping your body functioning properly, from aging, to energy, sleep, sex drive, hair loss and so much more. Hormones are often the first area to test when quality of life diminishes.
